A warning sign worth paying attention to

We were driving down the coast recently and stopped at Scott Beach, a bit south of Half Moon Bay.  Karen wanted to walk in the sand, and as we headed out from our car, this sign greeted us:

Needless to say, we chose not to go swimming.
